Nate Weiss

Nate Weiss is a Milwaukee-based trumpeter/composer who continues to innovate and assimilate in a variety of styles and genres. Born just a short drive down I-94 in Racine, WI, Nate grew up in a musical household and began piano at age 7. After attempts at percussion and saxophone he discovered the trumpet at the age of 10. Quickly gaining opportunities through groups both in school and beyond he developed his love for music, and at the age of 15 began to study improvisation. After high school Nate attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he studied Music Education as well as Jazz and Composition. During this time he wrote music for the UWM Jazz Ensemble as well as his own student combo and gained experience as a musician in the Milwaukee jazz scene.

He has performed on TMJ4′s Morning Blend, Festa Italiana, Summerfest, Labor Fest, Festa Mexicana, and countless other events and venues in the greater Milwaukee area and across Wisconsin. Nate has a diverse performing calendar in both small group and large group jazz as well as countless other styles. In addition to performing he is an avid composer writing original jazz compositions and arrangements for both small group and big band settings. His current project is the Nate Weiss quartet, a contemporary jazz group with a focus on original compositions that cross genres and styles while still having a foundation in improvisation.

Nate is currently an educator in the Kettle Moraine School District where he teaches High School Band, Jazz Ensemble, and serves as director of the district’s 5th grade band program. Because of his teaching position and composition background he has the ability to write music for his student performing ensembles on a regular basis, something he is very passionate about. Nate has also served as a clinician for a variety of education music festivals in Southeastern Wisconsin including the Woody Herman Jazz Festival.
