Brett Murphey



Brett is the lead trumpet player for the All-Star SUPERband. He started playing with the band in early 2000 at Jimmy D's . He is originally from Des Moines, Iowa and earned his B.M and M.M in Studio Music and Jazz/Jazz Pedagogy at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL in 1984. He studied trumpet with Gilbert Johnson for 5 years. Gil was the principal trumpet in the Philadelphia Orchestra for 25 years under Eugene Ormandy.


Brett has recorded, toured and/or performed with Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, The Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, Dionne Warwick, Gregg Allman, Robin Gibb, Andy Gibb, Dennis Brown, Jaco Pastorius, Bob James, Julio Iglesias, Bob Hope, Henry Mancini, Ben Vereen, Tony Bennett, Burt Bacharach, Anthony Newley, Don Rickles, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Joan Rivers, David Brenner, Lena Horne, Susan Anton, Melissa Manchester, Bobby Vinton, Sandy Duncan, Billy Crystal, Shecky Greene, Marvin Hamlish, Vic Damone, Lynda Carter, Alan King, Eddie Fisher, Nancy Wilson, Stephine Mills, Johnny Mathis, Chuck Mangione, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Spinners, Andy Williams, Peter Allen, Rich Little, Natalie Cole and others.


He has played lead trumpet for over 45 different touring Broadway productions including "The King and I", "Pirates of Penzance", "Camelot", "On Your Toes", Cabaret", "Sugar Babies", "Nine", "Oklahoma", "A Chorus Line", "West Side Story", "42nd Street", "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", "Annie", "My One and Only", "La Cage aux Folles", "Zorba", "The Color Purple", "Evita", "Hair", "Miss Saigon", "Chicago", "The Producers", "Thoroughly Modern Millie", "All Shook Up", "Dreamgirls", "The Music Man", "Peter Pan", "Hairspray", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Mary Poppins", "Billy Elliot", "Young Frankenstein" and "Wicked".

Brett's music has been inspired by the lead playing of Chuck Findley, Jerry Hey, Gary Grant and Wayne Bergeron. He is also a huge fan of Thomas Gansch, Robert Rother and Roman Rindberger of Mnozil Brass. Truly the most talented, creative and unique brass group on the planet.
